Think Peak Travel Is a Bad Idea? Not When You Follow These Tips

Date Publish: Apr 23, 2015

You've probably read a lot of tips telling you not to travel during the peak season. From sky high prices to the throngs of other travellers, there really are a lot of reasons to just wait for the off-peak months.

There is good reason, however, that a lot of people travel during peak months—because they're the best months to get out there and explore. Truth is, peak travel isn't really that bad at all, especially if you have these tips in your arsenal:

  • Plan your flight route well.

Most airports are congested during the peak season so you would want to avoid them as much as you can. Try to book flights early so you'll have time to look for the best routes to your destination. If you can fly non-stop, then go for it even if you have to pay a little bit more. If you don't have that option though, try to avoid a long layover and if possible, choose airports that don't usually experience delays. You can also opt for other forms of transportation during your trip, say a campervan hire in Australia or a train in Southeast Asia.

  • teer clear from the obvious travel choices.

Let's taking booking accommodations as an example. While you would instantly think about booking a hotel, which is also the obvious choice for a lot of travellers, try to look for other options that are just as cosy and comfortable yet not too crowded nor expensive. Stay with us if you're in New Zealand. We can offer you a cosy home away from home where you can relax, enjoy great scenery and just escape the hustle and bustle of the peak season. If you want to be a bit more adventurous, on the other hand, there's always a campervan hire in Australia that you can rent.

  • Pack as light as you can.

Case in point: cases of lost luggage are more rampant during the peak season. This is due to the high volume of travellers in airports. So if you can, try to avoid checking in a bag. If you're used to bringing your closet with you on the road, make peak travel an exception. Packing light can really benefit you a lot. For one, you can skip the long queue at the check-in counters and avoid the crowd at the conveyor belt. You can also move easily since you don't have to a lot of things with you. Of course, you can rest in the fact that everything you need is with you and not risk your luggage being loaded to another aeroplane, which can be very inconvenient.

Travelling, whether during the peak season or not, really boils down to strategy. If you take the time to plan everything, you can enjoy your trip and reduce your hassles along the way.
